Harambee Starlets provisional squad named ahead of Albania friendly

Kenyan women’s football team, Harambee Starlets, is set to play an international friendly match against Albania on April 11, 2023, in Tirana.

After more than a year without any games, Coach Godfrey Oduor has named a provisional squad that features a blend of local-based and foreign-based players.

Coach Oduor has emphasized that this squad is about rebuilding, and he is happy to have the girls back. The team has immense potential, and it’s time to get back to work to realize it. The coach has called up a mix of experienced and new players, and he believes they can work together to improve the team’s performance.

Among the players receiving their first call-up are Desma Nyawade and Maximila Robi, who play for Kisped Queens and Kibera Soccer in the FKF Women’s Division One. Monalizer Anyango from Zetech Sparks, Ketsi Ngaira from Ulinzi Starlets, and Valentine Khwaka from Gaspo Women have also received their first international call-ups.

The foreign-based players include Mwanahalima Adam, Vivian Nasaka, and Phoebe Owiti, who all play for Hakkarigucuspor in Turkey, as well as Jentrix Shikangwa, Vivian Corazone, and Ruth Ingosi from Simba Queens. Cynthia Shilwatso, who plays for Kryvbas Women, and Esse Akida from FC Paok also made the squad.

In the goalkeeping department, the team has Annedy Kundu from Rea Women FC and Lilian Awuor from ASL Soyaux Charente.

The team reports to camp on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
