Barcelona step effort to bring back Messi

FC Barcelona is reportedly stepping up their efforts to offer Lionel Messi a contract this summer by talking to La Liga about generating more flexibility in their Financial Fair Play (FFP) ratio.

According to sources, the club is in talks with the league regarding their spending limits for the upcoming season, with the idea firmly in mind to bring the Argentine superstar back to the Nou Camp and La Liga for what is likely to be his last year in European football.

Not easy bring back Messi

However, it will not be an easy task for the Catalan club, as they were charged by La Liga for breaching their limit with three players during the 2021-22 season, including former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen. As a result, the club was forced to re-register promising youngster Gavi as an academy player.

Despite these challenges, FC Barcelona is reportedly determined to offer Messi a contract extension that will keep him at the club for at least another season. Negotiations with Messi’s representatives are said to be ongoing, with the club looking to secure the Argentine’s signature before the start of the 2023-24 season.

Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 came as a shock to many football fans around the world. He joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a two-year deal with an option for a third year, but rumors have persisted that he may return to Barcelona to finish his career.

Negotiate

If Barcelona can successfully negotiate more flexibility with La Liga, it would be a significant boost to their chances of re-signing Messi. The club is keen to bring back one of their greatest-ever players and is reportedly willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Barcelona is currently in a period of transition, with new manager Xavi expected to lead the team back to success after a disappointing campaign last season. The club is hoping that Messi will be a key part of their future plans and help guide them back to the top of European football.
