23-year-old arrested wanted for torching Southern bypass trailer

The countrywide mass demonstrations that went down on Wednesday 4 May left a number of people counting losses. Like the owner of the trailer that was torched at the Southern bypass during protests. The protests went on despite the National Police Service outlawing them citing violent confrontations in previous protests.

The DCI stated in a statement released on Wednesday, May 3 that a string of muggings had been detained in connection with the torching of a transport trailer near the southern bypass.

DCI said that the young rascal with open court cases was carrying a knife when he was apprehended. The investigating agency revealed that the police were following up on leads to bring anyone responsible for violent activities up against the law.

“Detectives have also recorded statements from various witnesses and obtained CCTV footage in relation to some of the incidents, which shall be adduced in court, against the suspects,” DCI stated. They explained that the suspects were arraigned in different courts in Nairobi and charged with various offenses, from Robbery with Violence contrary to section 296(2) of the penal code, Malicious Damage to property contrary to section 339(1) of the penal code and Unlawful Assembly contrary section 78(1) as read with section 79 of the penal code.

Bus torched on Ngong road

Along Ngong Road, goons torched a public service vehicle belonging to MOA Sacco, which plies the Ngong-Nairobi route at Posta along Ngong Road. In a video seen by the irate group torched the bus before anti-riot police repulsed them. In Kibra, tension was building up after protesters lit bonfires and barricaded roads ahead of anti-government protests.

A public transportation bus owned by MOA Sacco, which travels the Ngong-Nairobi route, was set ablaze by demonstrators along Ngong Road. An angry group set the bus on fire in a video before being driven off by anti-riot police.
