MCA aspirant arrested after stealing from an M-pesa.

Benson Thuranira Kathiai, a Narc Kenya MCA candidate for Muthara ward in Meru county was yesterday arrested by the Nakuru DCI officers for allegedly defrauding an M-pesa shop in Nakuru county.

Thuranira was arrested after the M-pesa agent raised alarm upon discovering that a total amount of kshs.64,000 was already deposited in the suspect’s account.

According to the reports from the Rift Valley regional Director of Criminal Investigations Meme Mwendwa, Thuranira was arrested together with other two suspects, Michael Andai and Shadrack Otieno who are believed to be the gang members involved in M-pesa fraud in Kivumbini,Rhonda and Flamingo areas in Nakuru.

“Thuranira asked an M-pesa shop agent to deposit kshs.64,000 in his mobile number.When the M-pesa lady deposited,he manipulated his mobile phone and it could not reflect the M-pesa message.He therefore told the lady to return his cash which she did.After checking her message a short time later,she noticed that the money had already been deposited in Thuranira’s account.” Mwendwa said.

The DCI boss also said that the MCA aspirant has also similar cases in Shauri Moyo,Mwea and Mombasa.He is also accused of conning a woman in Busia 60 bags of groundnuts and 60,000 shillings.

The Mount Kenya University Degree in Business administration graduate told the DCI officers that he was looking for money to fund his campaigns.
