Manchester City were in a financial difficultly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Kevin De Bruyne managed to convince the club to make him the Premier League’s best-paid player.
De Bruyne’s management team used the services of a data company, Analytics FC, to support their argument. The company analyzed De Bruyne’s strengths, weaknesses, and intrinsic impact on the team.
They also projected that City would continue to be consistent Champions League challengers.
Based on this analysis, De Bruyne’s team argued that he was worth a 30% pay rise. City ultimately agreed to the increase, making De Bruyne the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
Other players who earn high salaries in the Premier League include Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Jadon Sancho, and Romelu Lukaku. Haaland’s contract includes a number of performance-based bonuses, which means that he can earn even more money if he meets certain goals.
Salah is the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history, and his salary is comparable to that of Sancho, who plays in a similar position for a club of similar stature. However, Sancho’s output has not been as good as Salah’s, which has led to some criticism of his salary.
