Rigathi Gachagua: A district officer who rose through the ranks to becoming a deputy president.
Rigathi Gachagua became first-term Member of Parliament from Nyeri’s Mathira constituency, in 2017.
He is the late Nashon, Gachagua, and Mama Jane Kirigo’s son. He is the late Governor of Nyeri, Nderitu Gachagua’s brother.
Gachagua began his career in real estate before entering politics. A businesses that generate millions of dollars.
He was appointed as a district officer in the late 1980s. He held this position before becoming the personal assistant to cabinet secretary Prof Phillip Mbithi. This occurred between 1992 and 1996.
In the 2017 general elections, he opted to run for the Mathira MP seat rather than the Nyeri Gubernatorial seat. And was elected to Parliament on a jubilee ticket.
Gachagua was charged with money laundering by the EACC in 2020.
The assets and Recovery agents froze Rigathi’s Kenya shillings 200 million.
He was accused of transferring more than 12.5 billion Kenya shillings from three fraudulent accounts.
However, he was able to withdraw 7.3 billion Kenya shillings. The remaining funds were frozen by the court.
Rigathi of UDA owns a number of businesses in the country. Rigathi Gachagua’s net worth is estimated to be around 800 million Kenyan shillings.
He joined the newly created United Democratic Party(UDA) in 2021. Apart that is led by President William Ruto .
Rigathi Gachagua rose through the ranks to become the deputy party leader UDA. And in 2022, he earned a Kenya Kwanza vice president ticket to run in the just concluded August general elections.
