Tragedy Strikes Ng’eno Family Again as Johana’s Brother Paul Dies

Johana Ngeno grew up in rural Narok County, valuing education despite limited access. He earned degrees in international law and studies, including an LL.B from Mount Kenya University and a Master’s from the University of Nairobi. Ngeno served as ADC Director, then became Emurua Dikirr MP in 2013, re-elected in 2017 and 2022. He championed education, conflict resolution, and community development, including bursaries and school transport. Ngeno faced legal challenges in 2020 over incitement charges linked to Mau Forest protests. He died in a helicopter crash in Nandi County while engaged in community and cultural activities. Early Life and Education Born on December 12, 1972, Johana Ngeno grew up in Narok County, where schooling was scarce but highly valued. He attended Mogondo Primary School before moving to Maseno National School for secondary education. Early exposure to local hardships inspired his desire to serve his community. Pursuing higher education, Ngeno studied international law at Kyiv TSN University in Ukraine. On returning to Kenya, he earned an LL.B from Mount Kenya University and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi. His academic background fueled his work in law, governance, and community development. Public Service and Parliamentary Career Before entering elective politics, Ngeno was Director at the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) from 2008 to 2012. The role offered experience in project management and national development, laying the groundwork for his future in Parliament. In March 2013, he won the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat, retaining it in 2017 and 2022. In the National Assembly, he chaired the Housing Committee and served on key committees, including Justice and Legal Affairs, Public Investments, and the NG-CDF Committee. Community Engagement and Development Initiatives Ngeno’s impact extended beyond legislation. He provided school buses and bursaries, ensuring access to education for students in remote areas. He resolved local disputes, such as transferring land title deeds to the family of the late Chumeek, allowing dignified burials. He also advocated for security, supporting KDF deployment during cross-border tensions in Narok County. Ngeno encouraged youth participation in governance, promoting peace and inclusive development. Legal Challenges In September 2020, Ngeno was arrested and charged with incitement after public statements during protests over Mau Forest evictions. He was detained briefly at Nakuru GK Prison and released on bond, with the court restricting him from making potentially inflammatory comments. The case highlighted the delicate balance between leadership and national unrest in politically sensitive areas. Final Days and Legacy Tragically, Ngeno was among six people killed in a helicopter crash at Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. At the time, he was actively participating in community and cultural activities, including celebrating artist Kim Kim’s 35th anniversary and assisting in a Mara River rescue operation. Throughout his career, Ngeno was viewed as a practical problem-solver, mentor, and advocate for justice. His work in education, legal reforms, and community development leaves a lasting imprint on Emurua Dikirr Constituents.

  • The family is now mourning the loss of two sons within six months.

The Ng’eno family has been hit by another devastating loss following the death of Paul Ng’eno, the elder brother of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno. Paul died on Friday, August 21, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Eldoret. His death was confirmed by the family, according to reports.

Paul had reportedly been in hospital for some time after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. He underwent surgery for injuries affecting his spinal cord and throat. Although his condition was said to have been stable, his health later deteriorated.

His death has left the family facing another painful loss only months after Johana died. The two brothers have now passed away within the same year. Their mother, Mary Temas, is once again grieving the loss of a son.

The latest tragedy came shortly after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited the Ng’eno family at their home in Mogondo, Narok County. During the visit, Gachagua met Paul’s mother and was informed about the financial burden created by his prolonged hospitalisation. He pledged to work with his friends to clear the medical bill.

The hospital bill was reported to have reached KSh1.8 million. Gachagua said the family had struggled to receive assistance and assured Paul’s mother that they would step in. He also offered to support the construction of a mausoleum for Johana Ng’eno.

Gachagua later expressed his condolences following Paul’s death. He said the loss was particularly painful because Mary Temas had now lost two sons in a short period. He asked God to give her and the wider family strength during the difficult moment.

Paul’s death comes less than six months after Johana was killed in a helicopter crash in Nandi County. The former MP died on February 28, 2026, alongside five other people after the aircraft crashed in the Chepkiep area of Mosop. His death shocked residents of Emurua Dikirr and leaders across Kenya.

Johana had served as the Emurua Dikirr MP since 2013. He successfully defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 General Elections. His death prompted messages of condolence from President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Gachagua, among other political leaders.

The family’s grief has now deepened following Paul’s passing. His death has brought another period of mourning for the community that had already gathered earlier this year to bury Johana. Friends, relatives and political leaders are expected to continue sending messages of condolence to the family.

Following news of Paul’s death, Gachagua extended his sympathies to Mary Temas and the entire Ng’eno family. He acknowledged the difficulty of losing two children within such a short period. He also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.

Gachagua said such a loss could leave a family questioning why it had suffered repeated tragedy. However, he urged the family to seek God’s strength during the painful period. He also extended his condolences to the people of Emurua Dikirr.

Paul’s passing now adds another chapter to a difficult year for the Ng’eno family. The family is expected to announce details of his funeral arrangements in due course. His relatives and the community will now come together to mourn his life and support his mother during another difficult farewell.
