  • Rigathi Gachagua has promised to help settle a KSh1.8 million hospital bill linked to Johana Nge’no’s family.
  • The DCP leader made the commitment during a visit to Mogondo in Emurua Dikirr.
  • Gachagua also pledged to construct a mausoleum in memory of the late former MP.
  • He said the projects would begin after the family agrees on the proposed mausoleum design.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to clear a KSh1.8 million hospital bill for the family of the late Johana Nge’no. Gachagua made the commitment on Friday while speaking in Mogondo, Emurua Dikirr. He said the bill belonged to Nge’no’s brother, who is currently receiving treatment in Eldoret.

Gachagua claimed that the family had struggled to receive assistance since the former Emurua Dikirr MP died. He particularly raised concern about Nge’no’s mother, whom he said had been left to cope with difficulties without meaningful government support. The former Deputy President said he was informed about the family’s situation during his visit.

According to Gachagua, the hospital bill had reached KSh1.8 million. He told Nge’no’s mother that he would work with his friends to settle the amount. The DCP leader said the priority was to ensure that her son receives the necessary care without the outstanding bill becoming an additional burden.

While addressing residents, Gachagua criticised government officials over what he described as neglect of Nge’no’s family. He alleged that officials only became interested in the family after learning that he was scheduled to visit the area. Gachagua said Nge’no’s mother deserved more support following the death of her son.

The former Deputy President said promises had previously been made to assist the family. He claimed those assurances had not translated into the support the family needed. His remarks came as he continued his political engagements in the region.

Gachagua has recently stepped up his activities under the Democracy for Citizens Party as he seeks to strengthen his political influence ahead of the 2027 General Election. His visit to Emurua Dikirr was also accompanied by political engagements with local residents and leaders.

Beyond the hospital bill, Gachagua also made another commitment involving the late former MP. He offered to help construct a mausoleum over Nge’no’s grave after his mother requested assistance. The former Deputy President said the structure would serve as a lasting memorial to his former friend.

Gachagua said he had already instructed designers to prepare a proposal for the mausoleum. He added that the design would take into account the wishes of Nge’no’s mother. Once the family is comfortable with the proposed design, construction is expected to begin immediately.

The pledge adds a personal element to Gachagua’s visit to the Nge’no family. He described the late politician as his friend and said the mausoleum would be built in his memory. The project is expected to provide the family with a permanent monument to remember the former legislator.

Nge’no’s political legacy remembered

Johana Ng’eno served as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr before his death. His family has remained an important part of political conversations in the constituency, particularly as local politics continues to take shape ahead of the next election.

Gachagua’s decision to support the family comes as he continues expanding his political activities across different parts of the country. The DCP leader has been holding grassroots meetings and engaging residents as part of his wider opposition mobilisation. His latest visit also gave him an opportunity to address concerns raised by the Nge’no family.

For now, the immediate focus will be on the hospital bill and the proposed mausoleum. Gachagua has promised that the KSh1.8 million debt will be settled through contributions from himself and his friends. He has also directed designers to begin work on the memorial structure.
