Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has brushed off any suggestions of a disagreement between him and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire. Speaking shortly after a leaders’ meeting, Kindiki emphasized that there was no bad blood between them and reaffirmed their strong working relationship.
To show there’s no friction, he passed on greetings from Mbarire, who was away on official duty. He noted that she missed the gathering due to a State House meeting called by President Ruto on livestock vaccination, which involved governors.
“There is no one who knows me or understands my connection with Embu leaders who would think I have issues with them. I even bring greetings from my sister, Mbarire. She’s away because of official business,” he said.
Kindiki insisted that all elected leaders from Embu are on the same page, focused on helping the national government meet its promises to the people.
Mbarire Sounds Alarm on Quiet Political Attacks
In contrast to Kindiki’s calm remarks, Governor Mbarire issued a strong warning during Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu County. She claimed that certain individuals within government ranks were working behind her back to bring her down.
According to her, the same government she has been defending is where the plotters are coming from. She pointed out that some officials from Nairobi have been holding meetings in Embu during the night, allegedly to weaken the influence of local elected leaders.
“As the UDA chairperson, I’ve been loyal. But now I’ve noticed there are people in government working to push me out. These meetings happening at night in Embu—those behind them don’t respect us,” she said.
Mbarire did not reveal names but warned that she will not hesitate to expose the individuals if the scheming does not stop. She emphasized her experience in politics and said she won’t allow such tactics to go unchecked.
“If they keep going, I will mention them. They know who they are. I’ve done politics for years—I won’t sit back while they undermine me,” she added.
The growing contrast between Kindiki’s message of peace and Mbarire’s warning reveals a simmering tension that could reshape political alliances in Embu County.
