Kenya’s amputee football team is gearing up for a strong show at the upcoming Cecafa tournament, set to take place in Bujumbura, Burundi, this September. After finishing third last year, the squad is determined to go further and challenge for the top prize this time around.
Organising Secretary of the Kenya Amputee Football Federation, Dismus Kuyiyi, expressed high hopes, noting that the team is better prepared and more driven than ever. He pointed out that the team’s youthful spirit and hunger to win could be the game-changer in this year’s campaign.
“We came close last year, but this time we’re going in with one mission — to win. The players are young, talented, and hungry. That’s the kind of fire we need,” Kuyiyi said confidently.
Men and Women’s Squads to Enter Camp at Kasarani
Both the men’s and women’s national amputee teams will start residential training on July 1 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani. The men’s side will train under head coach Clement Otieno, while the women’s squad will be led by Sharon Nyaoke. Each squad will have 18 players selected and ready to begin final preparations.
The coaching unit also includes goalkeeper coach Okatch Ochola, who brings valuable experience to strengthen the backline. Kuyiyi praised the full technical team and said the selected players are more than ready for the continental challenge.
“We’ve named strong squads, and with coaches Otieno, Nyaoke, and Ochola guiding them, we believe this team can deliver. Everything is on track,” he concluded.
With serious preparation and solid leadership, Kenya’s amputee football team is heading to Burundi not just to participate, but to bring the Cecafa crown home.
