- Cabinet Secretary for Sports and youth affairs Adabu Namwamba says that music alone can collect between 4-5 billion per year.
- He has indicated that broadcasters, public service vehicles, and entertainment and hospitality sports will have to pay for the music so that they increase royalties to artists.
On Friday 9th July, Cs Adabu Namwamba said that the government is looking at how it will increase and sort the issue of royalties to Kenyan artists. He said this during the launch of the Talanta Hela initiative at the state house the event that was graced by President William Ruro and all key players in the industry of sports and arts.

He said that the music industry alone is capable of collecting 4-5 billion a year, but that money does not reach artists and the Talanta Hela initiative has set up a team of lawyers that will provide free services to the creative industry as well as make sure the production of artists is protected.
“We must make sure the production of young people is protected, and we have set a Talanta Hela team that will provide free services to our creative”, “Music alone is a mega industry that could generate 4-5 billion a year and that money does not reach to artists”, he said.
He said that in the future artists will not have problems in receiving their royalties as he has managed to bring together key players in that space of collecting royalties, instead of having a scattered system then have they consolidated the collection of royalties.
