Wamuchomba Summoned by DCI After “Ruto Must Go” Chants in Githunguri

  • Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has been summoned by the DCI to appear on Saturday, April 5.
  • The summons follow a protest in Githunguri where locals chanted anti-Ruto slogans.
  • Wamuchomba linked the summons to citizens rejecting “fake promises.”
  • The MP has been vocal against new coffee levies imposed without public input.
  • Her confrontation with authorities highlights rising discontent in Mt. Kenya.

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba is now at the center of political storm clouds after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). This comes just hours after a video circulated online showing her leading a crowd in Githunguri as they chanted “Ruto Must Go” during a protest on Friday evening.

The demonstration took place shortly before President Ruto’s scheduled visit to the area. While the DCI has not officially disclosed the motive behind the summons, the timing has raised eyebrows over Wamuchomba’s alleged involvement in organizing the protest.

Wamuchomba Responds: “Arrest Won’t Change the Truth”

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Wamuchomba confirmed she had been contacted by the Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer.

“The CCIO Kiambu has, through a telephone call, summoned me because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialized,” she wrote.

“Arrest can be done, but it will not change the facts.”

Her post signals defiance and a refusal to back down amid the growing political pressure.

Bold Stance Against Coffee Sector Levies

The Githunguri MP has been particularly critical of the government’s recent actions affecting coffee farmers. Just days before the protest, Wamuchomba wrote an open letter to the president condemning the gazettement of new levies on coffee without any stakeholder engagement.

“These levies were gazetted on February 7, 2025, without engaging farmers or clearing through the National Assembly,” she stated, calling for their immediate withdrawal.

Her stance has positioned her as one of the loudest voices opposing recent agricultural reforms in Mt. Kenya.

Mounting Political Tension in Mt. Kenya

Wamuchomba’s clash with the state mirrors growing dissatisfaction in the Mt. Kenya region. Other leaders like former PS Irungu Nyakera have also voiced frustrations ahead of the president’s development tour, suggesting deeper undercurrents of discontent.

As farmers decry new charges and leaders raise red flags over unfulfilled promises, Wamuchomba’s DCI summons adds fuel to an already simmering political fire in Central Kenya.
