Last month the Communication Authority of Kenya issued a directive to all sim card holders to re-register their lines in an exercise which will come to an end today April 15. Kenyans have been struggling to beat the deadline but are met with various challenges.

Safaricom shops have been experiencing long queues with sim card holders trying to be on the safe side. Some parts of Kenya lack these shops prompting Kenyans to travel long distance to register their lines. Others are even ignorant of the fact that this important exercise is going on in other parts of the country because of lack of information.

This is why safaricom company has followed in the footsteps of fellow telecommunication companies Airtel and Telkom Kenya to introduce an efficient method one can use to register their lines at the comfort of their phones.

Through this process, someone can easily register their lines through their own phones without having to move to the nearest safaricom shop and stand on a long queue waiting to be served.

To register your line, follow these simple steps;

  1. Dial *160# to confirm if your line does not meet the requirements stipulated by Communications Authority of Kenya. Not everyone is supposed to register their lines, only those whose lines are not verified should participate in this exercise, someone should therefore check if they should participate in this exercise by dialing the above USSD code. This process is free.
  2. Have a device that can access internet and click on this link https://t.co/4WILL1iHNH
  3. After clicking the above link, (The one in number 2), you will be directed to Safaricom’s platform where you will be required to state your phone number to proceed. Remember that you can do this to anyone, your friend or relative who doesn’t have a smartphone and the process is absolutely FREE.
  4. After entering you phone number, you will be required to fill in your details including an image of your original ID/passport. The ID number should match the one you used to register your line.
  5. Fill in the details and wait for a confirmation message. You can also block other lines illegally registered under your National ID by just dialing*160#.

Make sure to complete this process before the end of today’s deadline in order to be on the safe side. You can also carry out the same process for your friends, parents and your loved ones who doesn’t have smartphones.
