  • A man named George Oduor shocked villagers when he returned home in Wombasa, Kakamega, after being missing for a decade.
  • His family had earlier buried a body they believed to be his, only to realize he was still alive.
  • The sudden reappearance sparked confusion and disbelief; with many thinking he had come back from the dead.
  • The wrongly buried body was later exhumed and taken back to the mortuary for proper identification.

A quiet village in Kakamega County has been thrown into confusion after a man who had been missing for 10 years walked back home — just days after his family held his burial.

George Oduor left his home in Wombasa back in 2015 when he was 27 years old. Since then, no one in his family had any idea where he was or whether he was even alive. His disappearance remained a mystery until Tuesday, April 1, 2025, when he suddenly appeared — now aged 37.

“Buried” Man Walks Back Home

What made this case even more shocking is that the family had already laid someone to rest, believing it was Oduor. His return caught everyone off guard, with some villagers whispering in disbelief, thinking he had risen from the dead.

After sitting down for conversations with him, it became clear that the person buried wasn’t Oduor. The resemblance may have been strong, but the identity was wrong.

Body Exhumed After Identity Mix-Up

With no other choice, the family had to go through the painful process of exhuming the body they had buried. The remains, which had already started decomposing, were taken back to the mortuary to allow for further identification.

It remains unclear who the buried man actually was, and the incident has now raised serious questions on the identification process that led to the initial burial.
