Raila Odinga Career, Biography, Education and Family

Raila Odinga is a Kenyan politician and former Kenyan Prime Minister. He was born in Maseno, Kenya, on January 7, 1945.

Education

Raila Odinga received his primary education at Maranda Primary School and his secondary education at Maseno School. He then studied mechanical engineering at the University of Nairobi, where he graduated in 1970.

Career:
Raila Odinga began his political career in the 1970s as a member of the Kenya People’s Union (KPU) party. He later joined the National Development Party (NDP) and became its Secretary-General. In the 1980s, he joined the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (FORD) and was elected as the party’s Secretary-General. He ran for president in 1997 but lost to Daniel arap Moi. He ran again in 2007 and lost to Mwai Kibaki. In 2008, he was appointed as Prime Minister in a power-sharing government with President Mwai Kibaki. He ran for president again in 2013 and 2017 but lost both times to Uhuru Kenyatta.
