Harambee stars draws against Burundi

The Kenya national team, Harambee stars on Friday 7th June 2024 recorded a 1-1 draw against Burundi. It was a 2026 FIFA world cup qualifiers encounter.The match was hosted at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The game kicked off with multiple chances in favor of Harambee stars. In the first forty five minutes of the game, Harambee stars players dominated the possession. The stars forward line led by the captain, Michael Olunga pressed the swallow’s goal post. However, the Burundi defenders stood firm for the challenge.Harambee stars made frequent tackles.Burundi defense line made efforts to ensure no ball penetration.The Swallows defecnce line remained solid on both sides.

Richard Odada got the first real chance from left side but Burundi goalkeeper Jonathan Nahimana tipped it over the cross bar. Harambee stars Timothy Ouma got a yellow card in the 23rd minute. This came just after he fouled on Keita Bukuru.The  first half of the game ended in a barren draw.

Second Half encounter

However, the second half resumed with high determination from the Burundi side.The Burundi coach injected in new energy after making two substitutions.

Kenya broke the deadlock on the 72nd minute.Substitue Austin Odhiambo orchestrated a brilliant pass to Duke Abuya who slotted the ball into the net.The Duo came on in the 64th minute for Timothy Ouma and winger Clifton Miheso respectively.

Nevertheless, Kenya’s happiness was halted.In the 85th minute Burundi restored parity. Striker Sudi Abdallah strong pass outstreched Manasi’s arms. The match ended ina 1-1 Draw. Kenya is schedules Ivory coast in the next fixture. The match will be played on Tuesday 11th June in Malawi. Kenya has to win the game against Ivory Coast to revive their world cup dream.

Kenya currently sits in the third place in group F.Stars are tying with Burundi having four points each.Ivory coast s on the top of the log with 9 points.Gabon takes position two with six points.
