- Dr William Oduol has declared a bid for Siaya Governor
- He will seek the ODM ticket ahead of 2027
- Announcement was made at his Hawinga home
- He blames slow development on the current administration
- Oduol says the 2022 manifesto was not implemented
Siaya Deputy Governor Dr William Oduol has formally declared his intention to run for the county’s top job in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for a possible face-off with Governor James Orengo.
Dr Oduol announced while hosting a fellowship with religious leaders from Alego Usonga constituency at his Hawinga village home. During the meeting, he made it clear that his political journey to the governor’s seat will be through the ODM party.
He noted that the real contest will begin at the party nominations, where he expects all interested candidates, including Governor Orengo, to participate.
“I am officially declaring my intention to run for Governor of Siaya County on an ODM ticket. I will go through the party nominations, and I hope Governor Orengo will also present himself,” Dr Oduol stated.
His declaration signals the start of early political realignments within the party as the race for Siaya gains momentum.
Dr Oduol said his decision was driven by slow development and what he described as unfulfilled promises by the current county administration.
He accused the government of abandoning the 2022 manifesto, saying much of it was based on his own development ideas for Siaya County.
The Deputy Governor promised that if elected, he would fully implement the nine-point manifesto they presented to voters during the last election.
“I allowed the current administration time to deliver on the promises we made to the people of Siaya. Sadly, that vision has not been achieved. I am now stepping forward to make sure the development plan I designed is fully implemented,” he said.
Dr Oduol stressed that county leadership needs a hands-on administrator, not just a political activist or lawmaker. He said his focus will be on practical governance and service delivery.
He outlined his key priorities as: Improved health services, Strong food security programmes, Empowerment of women and youth broad-based county development
With Dr Oduol’s declaration, political temperatures in Siaya County are expected to rise as the 2027 race slowly takes shape, especially within the ODM party.
