On 13th August 2023, William Owino, alias Degea, was named the youngest Goalkeeper of the Tournament during the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Kakamega County Finals after his outstanding performance helped The Menace edge out Lugusi Boys at the Kakamega High School grounds under coach Dismas Wanjawa of Roystar Academy .
William’s journey begun long before the spotlight. He was nurtured and mentored from childhood by his coach Joseph Wanga of Tsunami fc. He grew up in Tsunami, later joining St. Martha’s Mwitoti Secondary school before joining St. Mary’s Kibabi Boys in Bungoma County.
Degea’s brilliance between the posts played a crucial role as Menace lifted the trophy for the first time, marking a truly remarkable achievement.
Since then, Owino’s football journey has not been syphoned but continued to shine.
He has been a key player for EIGHT FEET FC under coach Boko Barbie where he continued to sharpen his skills and grow in confidence in goalkeeping.
Degea also delivered commanding performances for St.Mary’s Kibabi Boys, contributing significantly to their success in the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) competitions.
Today, we celebrate his growth, discipline, and dedication as William Owino proudly represents Kenya in the National U-17 Team, competing in the CECAFA U-17 Qualifiers.
