A lodging house near Mombasa Old Town became the center of a scandal Wednesday after police responding to a disturbance found a woman and her father in law in circumstances that neighbors described as compromising, officials said.
Officers arrived at the single room lodging after residents reported shouting and a struggle. When police entered they found 34 year old Aisha Omondi and her 62 year old father in law, whose name was withheld pending further investigation. Both were taken to the Kilindini police station for questioning and later released on police bond, the officer in charge said.
Neighbors said the pair were not known to share close relations prior to the incident. “We heard shouting and then banging,” said Hassan Juma, who lives across the lane. “People gathered and then the police came.”
The incident quickly became the focus of social media posts in coastal counties where rumor and gossip spread faster than official statements.
