Media personality Oga Obinna has urged Kenyans to stop spreading conspiracy theories about the death of Gengetone artist Shalkido, formerly of the Sailors Gang, and instead focus on compassion and support for people while they are still alive.

Speaking on his show on Monday, October 6, 2025, Obinna addressed the ongoing online claims alleging that Shalkido’s death was linked to foul play or ritual activity.

“If you go to social media, you will see a lot of theories. I’ve seen people say Shalkido was sacrificed, or that what happened to him was planned,” Obinna said.

He criticised those using the tragedy for attention, saying many of them never showed up for Shalkido when he was struggling.

“I like to give people their flowers when they’re alive. After someone is gone, there’s not much you can do. When someone is alive, that’s when they need you the most,” he added.

Obinna encouraged his audience to reach out to friends and family going through difficult times instead of waiting until tragedy strikes.

“Take it upon yourself to support our brothers and sisters while they are still here,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude for having known and supported Shalkido during his lifetime.

“I am grateful to God for giving me a chance to be part of Shalkido’s life, even for a short time, and to try to impact it positively,” he noted.

Shalkido, whose real name was Kevin Mburu Kinyanju, passed away on Monday evening after a motorbike accident along Thika Road.

He had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital before succumbing to his injuries.

In a TikTok video shared by a cousin alongside Shalkido’s father, the family confirmed that doctors had pronounced him dead at 6:30 p.m.

“It is a sad evening. We have just received a report from the doctor that Shalkido died at 6:30. Let us come together and stand with this family,” the cousin said.

The family later confirmed that his body had been moved to the morgue as tributes continued pouring in from fans and fellow artists mourning the young Gengetone star’s untimely death.
