The son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, Ryan Injendi, has accused Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of interfering with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries. Speaking on Sunday, September 21, Ryan alleged that officials linked to Mudavadi’s office meddled in the contest, tilting the outcome against him.

Ryan explained that President William Ruto had advised aspirants to settle the matter through party primaries. He noted that he never saw Ruto or his aide, Farouk Kibet, influencing the process. Instead, he claimed the Prime CS’s office played a hand.

“What is very surprising is the people from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary. What were you doing in Malava, fighting a young man like me? Why didn’t you allow the people of Malava to conduct their election on their own?” he asked.

Despite his disappointment, Ryan accepted the results and congratulated David Ndakwa, who clinched the UDA ticket with 6,477 votes against his 3,783. He pledged to remain loyal to President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“I will give Ndakwa space to seek votes in Malava, and I will still stand with the government and President Ruto,” Ryan said.

Ndakwa, the Minority Leader in the Kakamega County Assembly, will now carry UDA’s flag in the Malava by-election. He is expected to face Seth Panyako, who was given a direct ticket by the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the by-election for November 27, 2025. The seat fell vacant following the death of Malulu Injendi earlier this year.
