  • CS Aden Duale says the 90 KMTC campuses are enough for Kenya.
  • Warns that adding new branches will lower quality due to stretched resources.
  • Points to Garissa campus as proof existing institutions can meet demand.
  • Ministry pushing for technology use and improved simulation labs.
  • KMTC currently has 87,000 students and produces 20,000 graduates yearly.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has ruled out calls for new Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) branches. Speaking at the institution’s headquarters in Nairobi, he said the current 90 campuses already serve the country’s training needs.

According to him, opening more branches would create heavy costs without improving education quality.

The CS noted that unchecked growth could weaken services. He explained that new buildings without proper funding for operations would make institutions look busy but fail to function fully.

“As a Ministry and as a country, we must embrace economies of scale,” he emphasized.

Duale used Garissa campus, which serves several constituencies, as an example that one institution can meet wide demand if resources are well managed. He assured Kenyans that KMTC maintains the right staff-to-student ratios and continues to deliver quality healthcare training.

Health Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth added that instead of building new campuses, the college should focus on modernizing. He urged KMTC to invest in simulation labs, embrace technology, and meet international standards.

KMTC currently has over 87,000 students across the country and graduates more than 20,000 students annually. These professionals are deployed both locally and abroad, making it Kenya’s largest mid-level training institution.
