Kenya has found itself on the global cinema stage after top Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli and his crew chose the country as the main shooting location for their upcoming film SSMB29.

Rajamouli, respected worldwide for his epic storytelling and bold visuals, led a 120-member crew that filmed in Kenya for the past two weeks.

The team settled on Kenya after scouting across East Africa, selecting it for 95% of the movie’s African scenes.

Filming featured Kenya’s signature backdrops, the wide plains of the Masai Mara, the calm waters of Lake Naivasha, the rugged landscapes of Samburu, and the majestic views of Amboseli.

The film is projected to be Asia’s largest production and will premiere in 120 countries. Industry experts estimate an audience of over one billion people, giving Kenya unmatched visibility on the global stage.

Confirming the development, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi celebrated the project as proof of Kenya’s natural beauty and growing role in international cinema.

“As the crew departs for India to continue filming, Kenya stands proud to share its story with the world,” Mudavadi posted on X.

Beyond cinema, the project is expected to promote tourism, attract investment, and strengthen Kenya’s creative economy. Officials say the exposure will bring long-term cultural and economic benefits.
