Kenyan Passport Drops Two Places in Global Ranking

The Kenyan passport has fallen two spots in the latest Henley Passport Index, now ranking 69th globally, down from 67th last year. This index, compiled by Henley & Partners, ranks passports by the number of destinations accessible without a prior visa or with a visa on arrival.

Currently, Kenyan passport holders enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 71 destinations, the same as The Gambia.

Kenya’s passport ranking has seen several shifts in recent years: 2025 – 69th, 2024 – 67th, 2023 – 73rd, 2022 – 71st, 2021 – 77th (historic low)

Within Africa, Kenya is tied for 10th place with The Gambia. The top African passports are: Seychelles – 24th globally (156 destinations), Mauritius – 27th, South Africa – 48th, Botswana – 59th, Namibia – 63rd, Lesotho – 65th, Eswatini – 66th, Malawi – 67th, Morocco – 67th

Somalia ranks lowest in Africa, offering visa-free access to only 32 countries.

At the global level: Singapore retains the strongest passport (193 destinations). Japan and South Korea follow with 190 destinations.

The United States has dropped to 10th place, its lowest ever, with 182 destinations accessible.

The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports based on access to 227 destinations. The data is sourced exclusively from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and updated regularly to reflect real-time travel freedom across the globe.
