  • Muturi says Murkomen is too immature and excitable to handle such a sensitive docket.
  •  Blames Ruto for poor judgment in picking him for the role.
  • Calls out “childishness” in Murkomen’s handling of Interior affairs.
  • Echoes Cherargei’s earlier push to sack Murkomen over growing insecurity.

Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has taken a swipe at President William Ruto over what he termed a “reckless” appointment of Kipchumba Murkomen as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Speaking during a live interview on K24 TV on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Muturi said the Interior Ministry needs someone who is composed, mature, and not drunk on power.

“They say if you want to test a man, give him power. I think power has gotten to his (Murkomen’s) head, and he is a fairly young man who is excited about the exercise of power. There’s also an element of childishness in him,” said Muturi.

He went on to say that President Ruto made a mistake in giving such a critical portfolio to someone he described as excitable and lacking reflective leadership.

“When you give him a serious docket like Interior, even you, as the appointing authority, must begin questioning your capacity at leadership. This is a serious docket that needs a mature person.”

Muturi’s remarks come weeks after Senator Samson Cherargei demanded Murkomen’s sacking, citing rising lawlessness.

On June 9, 2025, Cherargei claimed insecurity was getting worse and suggested Prof. Kithure Kindiki should serve as both Deputy President and Interior CS.

“The minister in charge is busy travelling across the country and is now in Swaziland, while the security of the country is deteriorating.”

Murkomen has been widely criticised for his recent directive urging police officers to shoot protesters approaching police stations, and for attacking the judiciary over bail rulings for arrested demonstrators.
