The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has formally summoned Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, over the mysterious death of Albert Ojwang. This comes as the authority intensifies its investigation into the disturbing incident that took place at Nairobi Central Police Station.

In a statement made public on Wednesday, June 18, IPOA confirmed that the Deputy IG must now appear before investigators to give his account.

“Having found basis, IPOA has issued summons to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, to appear before the Authority’s investigations team to record a statement,” the statement read.

More Officers Under Scrutiny

According to IPOA, several other officers have already appeared before the investigation team. So far, 20 police officers have recorded statements regarding the matter.

Among them is IP Samuel Ng’ang’a, the Deputy OCS at Central Police Station. IPOA further revealed that Chief Inspector Samson Talaam and Police Constable James Mukhwana have already been taken to court, while IP Ng’ang’a was arrested on Tuesday, June 17 and is now being held at M
