In a public announcement made on Tuesday, May 6, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) officially invited qualified individuals to apply for the top job at the commission. The position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is now open as the current term nears its conclusion.
The statement, shared by the commission, highlights that the role is guided by the Constitution under Article 237 and the Teachers Service Act No. 20 of 2012. The new CEO will operate under the Commission’s guidance, ensuring that TSC’s strategic functions are carried out effectively.
Responsibilities Awaiting the Incoming CEO
The TSC outlined the main responsibilities expected of the incoming CEO, with the role demanding both leadership and accountability. The selected individual will: Head the Commission’s Secretariat, Serve as the Accounting Officer, Manage all official Commission records, Additionally, the role includes: Implementing decisions made by the Commission, Allocating duties and supervising TSC staff, Coordinating and overseeing the execution of TSC’s mandate, Ensuring all staff follow public service ethics, Enforcing the relevant legal frameworks under the Act, Handling any other assignments given by the Commission.
Minimum Requirements for Interested Candidates
To qualify for this critical role, candidates must: Be Kenyan citizens, Hold a university degree in education from a recognized institution, Have at least 10 years of experience in education, public service, or financial management, Fulfill the integrity and leadership standards set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
According to the Commission, the position will offer a five-year term, with the option of one renewal. Salaries and other benefits will follow the guidelines of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
