Safaricom PLC has reported a strong financial performance for the year ending March 31, 2025, posting a net profit of Ksh69.8 billion. The company’s revenue rose significantly, reaching Ksh388.7 billion—a growth of 11.2% compared to the previous year.

The telco attributed the impressive numbers to a consistent rollout of innovative products, expansion into the Ethiopian market, and ongoing community support initiatives worth over Ksh18 billion in the past five years.

CEO Hails Strong Teamwork and Strategic Direction

Commenting on the performance, CEO Peter Ndegwa credited the results to the company’s long-term strategy, customer loyalty, and employee dedication. He noted that Safaricom achieved double-digit growth in both revenue and profits, reinforcing the strength of its vision.

Ethiopia Unit Adds Significant Value

Safaricom’s move into Ethiopia continued to show positive returns, contributing nearly 10% to the overall revenue. The Ethiopian operation now has 8.8 million subscribers, with 2.8 million actively using its services and over 3,000 network sites already in place.

Additionally, M-PESA in Ethiopia recorded transactions worth Ksh20.6 billion during the year under review.

Kenyan Operations Drive Revenue with M-PESA and Mobile Data

Back home, the Kenyan market remained strong. Service revenue grew by 10.5%, standing at Ksh364.3 billion. M-PESA led the pack, generating Ksh161 billion—almost half of the service revenue. Connectivity services grew by 6.5%, while mobile data surged by 15.2% to hit Ksh72.9 billion, largely due to a rise in 4G usage.

Surprisingly, voice revenue also edged up by 1.6% to Ksh80.8 billion, defying a global decline in voice usage.

Safaricom Eyes the Future with Confidence

According to Ndegwa, the financial results are not just an indicator of the past but a launchpad for what lies ahead. He emphasized Safaricom’s goal of becoming Africa’s top purpose-driven tech company by 2030, with innovation and social impact remaining key to its mission.

Big Reward for Shareholders

As a sign of confidence and growth, Safaricom announced a dividend payout of Ksh48.08 billion to its shareholders. This includes a final dividend of 65 cents per share, in addition to the interim dividend of 55 cents per share issued earlier in the year.
