Dr. Mercy Mwangangi Appointed as First CEO of Social Health Authority

Dr. Mercy Mwangangi has officially taken charge as the first Chief Executive Officer of the Social Health Authority (SHA), following a tough and competitive selection process. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale made the announcement on Friday, April 11.

According to the CS, a total of 92 individuals applied for the position. After a detailed review, only 12 were shortlisted and interviewed — with Dr. Mwangangi coming out on top.

Why She Was Picked

Duale described Mwangangi as a strong leader with deep roots in Kenya’s health system. He said she has a rich background in universal health coverage, health financing, reforms, and partnerships.

“Dr. Mwangangi is a seasoned expert with over 15 years in health governance, financing, and policy reform. She has led major transformations in the health sector and is now set to guide SHA into a new era,” read part of the official statement.

Ministry Sends Best Wishes

The Ministry praised her past achievements and expressed full trust in her ability to deliver. Duale also noted that Mwangangi’s leadership will be key in shaping Kenya’s social health strategy going forward.

“We congratulate Dr. Mwangangi and wish her great success as she becomes the very first CEO of the Social Health Authority,” the Ministry said.
