The President also issued a stern warning, stating that if the funds are not credited by the promised deadline, he will hold those responsible accountable.
“If by Friday the money is not in your accounts, reach out to me. There are individuals I will personally hold responsible for this delay,” he added.
Earlier Government Disbursement of Ksh3.32 Billion
Ruto’s directive comes just a month after the Ministry of Education confirmed that the government had released Ksh3.32 billion for First and Second-Year students under the 2024/25 academic year.
In a statement dated Tuesday, February 4, Education CS Julius Ogamba confirmed that the HELB loans range from Ksh40,000 to Ksh60,000 per student, with the funds specifically allocated for student upkeep.
“By January 31, 2025, the government had disbursed a total of Ksh3.32 billion for First and Second-Year students. The funds, issued through HELB, are crucial for student welfare, with upkeep loans ranging between Ksh40,000 and Ksh60,000 per student,” read part of the statement.
CS Ogamba further noted that the funds were part of the government’s 2024/25 budgetary allocation, approved in July 2024 to support students across the country.
