Chelsea are reportedly not interested in loaning Romelu Lukaku this summer, and instead want a €40m (£34.4m) fee for a permanent transfer.

Lukaku spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Inter Milan, where he scored 13 goals and seven assists in Serie A and the Champions League. The 30-year-old Belgian is keen to stay at Inter, but the club is not in a position to afford a permanent transfer.

Chelsea paid £97.5m to sign Lukaku in 2021, but he struggled to make an impact in his first season back at Stamford Bridge. The club is now willing to sell him for a loss, but only if they receive a significant fee.

Inter are reportedly willing to offer €30m (£26.2m) for Lukaku, but Chelsea are holding out for €40m. It is unclear if Inter will be willing to meet Chelsea’s demands, but the Blues are not interested in a loan deal.

With Lukaku’s future uncertain, Chelsea are pressing ahead with making their own additions in the final third. Christopher Nkunku has already been confirmed as a Chelsea player, and the club are also reportedly close to signing Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal.

It remains to be seen where Lukaku will play next season, but it seems likely that he will be leaving Chelsea. The club are not interested in a loan deal, and they are only willing to sell him for a significant fee.

In addition to Inter, there are a few other potential suitors for Lukaku. AC Milan are reportedly monitoring the situation, and they could make a move if Inter are unable to meet Chelsea’s demands.

Another option for Lukaku is a move to the Saudi Pro League. He recently had the option to join a club in that league, but he rejected that opportunity in order to remain in Europe.
