Football Kenya Federation, in close consultation with the Ministry of Sports and the Albanian Football Federation, has made the difficult decision to cancel the much-anticipated friendly match between the Harambee Starlets and Albania, which was slated to take place on April 11, 2023, in Tirana.
Despite the concerted efforts of all concerned, numerous logistical challenges have made it impossible for the team to travel and arrive in Albania on or before the scheduled date.
Kenya acutely aware of disappointment
The Federation says it is acutely aware of the disappointment that this news will bring to the Starlets and their fans, and it shares their sadness at this turn of events. However, it remains steadfast in its commitment to the development of football in Kenya and is actively exploring alternative friendly matches with other countries for the Starlets to participate in during the upcoming FIFA window.
The Federation recognizes the crucial role that friendly matches play in preparing national teams for competitive tournaments and is working tirelessly to identify suitable opponents for the Harambee Starlets. The cancellation of the Albania friendly has only heightened the Federation’s resolve to secure high-quality matches for the Starlets, and it is determined to ensure that the team continues to gain valuable experience and exposure in international football.
Kenya Camp dismissed
Although the team’s camp has been cut short due to the cancellation of the friendly, the Federation remains dedicated to providing ongoing support and guidance to the players as they return to their respective clubs. The Harambee Starlets have demonstrated immense talent and potential, and the Federation is committed to nurturing their abilities and helping them achieve their full potential in football.
