- KRA and the National Treasury have confirmed that government suppliers can submit valid invoices generated through either eTIMS or TIMS.
- Both invoice types are supported under the IFMIS-eTIMS integration, subject to validation checks.
- The clarification means suppliers do not have to rely exclusively on eTIMS.
- Suppliers can contact KRA through its customer service channels for assistance.
Government suppliers can use valid invoices generated through either the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) or the Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS) when seeking payment from public entities.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the National Treasury issued the clarification in a public notice dated October 15. The agencies said both invoice formats are supported under the integration linking eTIMS with the government’s Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
The clarification addresses concerns over whether suppliers must exclusively use eTIMS invoices for government payments. According to the notice, invoices generated through either system can proceed through the payment process, provided they meet the applicable validation requirements.
Although both invoice types are accepted, suppliers must ensure their documents meet the required checks before they can move through the IFMIS payment workflow. The integration allows invoices to undergo automated verification as part of the government payment process.
KRA and the Treasury said the system is intended to improve invoice validation, make payment processing more efficient and strengthen tax compliance. The agencies did not indicate that the clarification removes any existing invoice validation requirements.
KRA Offers Support to Government Suppliers
The two agencies said they would continue assisting government entities and suppliers as the integrated system is implemented and used. The support is intended to help users navigate the validation process and facilitate timely payment of legitimate invoices.
Suppliers who need clarification or technical assistance can contact KRA through its Contact Centre on 020 4 999 999 or 0711 099 999. They can also send their queries to callcentre@kra.go.ke.
