  • The incident happened at an apartment along Honeypot Road late at night.

  • Authorities are treating the case as murder pending further findings.

A quiet evening in Ongata Rongai took a tragic turn after a domestic disagreement escalated into a fatal incident. The case, now under investigation as murder, has drawn attention to rising concerns over violent disputes in homes.

Police reports indicate that the confrontation happened on the night of April 29, 2026, inside a residential apartment. What began as a private disagreement quickly turned physical, leading to serious injuries that would later prove fatal.

Residents in the area described the situation as sudden and shocking, noting that everything unfolded within a short period of time.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Mungai Gathogo, a 53-year-old chef working under the Parliamentary Service Commission. He was attached to the catering department, a role that involved preparing meals for parliamentary staff and official functions.

According to investigators, Gathogo had just returned home from work in the company of his girlfriend. The two reportedly entered the house together before the situation inside changed dramatically.

Colleagues who later learned of the incident described him as a quiet professional who had served in the institution for years.

Initial findings from detectives suggest that the couple got into a heated argument shortly after arriving home. The caretaker reportedly heard raised voices before the confrontation turned violent.

Investigators believe the woman later left the house and returned with another person. It was at this point that the victim was discovered lying on the bedroom floor, unresponsive and seriously injured.

He had sustained a stab wound, and a kitchen knife believed to have been used during the altercation was recovered at the scene.

Officers from the local police station, working together with Directorate of Criminal Investigations, responded quickly after receiving the report. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.

Despite the efforts to save him, doctors confirmed that he had already succumbed to his injuries. His body has since been moved to the mortuary as preparations for a postmortem examination begin.

Medical findings are expected to play a key role in confirming the exact cause of death.

Police have arrested the woman linked to the incident, and she remains in custody as investigations continue. Detectives are now piecing together the sequence of events to establish what exactly led to the fatal outcome.

The recovered weapon has been secured as evidence, and statements are being recorded from witnesses, including the caretaker and neighbours. Authorities say the case file will guide the next legal steps once investigations are complete.

The incident adds to a growing list of domestic-related cases reported in urban areas. Experts continue to warn that unresolved conflicts within relationships can quickly turn dangerous when emotions escalate.

Law enforcement agencies have urged couples to seek peaceful ways of resolving disputes and to report threats early. As this case unfolds, it stands as a painful reminder of how quickly situations can spiral out of control.
