- Trabzonspor has agreed a loan deal with Manchester United for goalkeeper Andre Onana.
- The move now depends on Onana’s decision to accept the transfer.
- Onana, 29, has dropped down the pecking order under new manager Ruben Amorim.
- United signed Belgian goalkeeper Sanne Lemmens on deadline day, sealing Onana’s fate.
- Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain options as their transfer windows are still open.
Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United looks set to end after reports confirmed Trabzonspor have agreed a loan deal with the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer now rests on whether the Cameroon international gives the green light.
At 29, Onana has found himself out of favour at Old Trafford. Manager Ruben Amorim has preferred Altay Bayindir, despite the Turkish goalkeeper’s inexperience, after Onana picked up an injury in preseason.
The final blow came on deadline day when United secured Belgian shot-stopper Sanne Lemmens. Combined with Onana’s error-strewn display in the League Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, it became clear he no longer features in Amorim’s plans.
While Onana did lift the FA Cup during his short spell, his time in England has been overshadowed by costly mistakes since he arrived from Inter Milan in 2023.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12, giving Trabzonspor a chance to secure his signature. Saudi Arabia also offers an option with its window open until September 23.
For Onana, a move to Trabzonspor would bring much-needed game time. The Turkish giants last won the league in 2022 and are determined to challenge Galatasaray again this season after a busy summer rebuild.
Onana’s United career now appears beyond saving. The decision may feel harsh, but with Amorim setting up his own project and Lemmens already signed, United have moved on. For the player, a switch to Turkey could be the lifeline he needs to revive his career.
