- A man shocked an Eldoret court by openly admitting he sells bhang to make a living.
- He was arrested after police received a tip and found bhang worth Ksh750,000 at his home.
- The court has ordered that he stay in remand until tests confirm the substance seized.
- His next hearing is set for July 14.
Courtrooms hear many things, but on Monday, one statement stood out. Geoffrey Wanjala, a man facing drug-related charges, calmly told Magistrate Daniel Sitati that selling bhang was not just something he did, but his only way to earn a living.
His arrest happened on June 26 in Lower West Indies, just outside Eldoret town. According to police, a tip from locals led undercover officers to his house, where they say they found freshly harvested cannabis ready for sale.
In court, the prosecution said the stash was valued at around Ksh750,000. They also claimed Wanjala tried to escape when officers arrived—but didn’t get far before he was caught.
Prosecutor Eric Waweru asked the magistrate to allow police more time to carry out a proper analysis of the drugs. The court agreed and ruled that Wanjala should stay in Eldoret GK Remand until July 14.
The government chemist is now examining the substances found at Wanjala’s home. Whether he will face formal charges depends on what those results show.
