  • A female police officer from Embakasi died after a failed abortion attempt in Kabiru, Kawangware.
  • She was rushed to a second hospital, already unconscious and bleeding heavily.
  • A nurse and a driver were arrested as investigations continue.
  • Reports suggest it was an induced abortion that led to fatal bleeding.
  • Her body is now at the morgue awaiting post-mortem results.
  • Unsafe abortions remain a health threat, especially in informal facilities.

Residents of Kabiru in Kawangware were left stunned after a female police constable reportedly died following a failed medical procedure believed to be an abortion. The officer was said to be on leave from her post in Embakasi when the incident happened.

She was taken to a second hospital in critical condition—bleeding and unconscious—after being transferred from a different private clinic. According to witnesses, she was brought in by private car while visibly bleeding, but unfortunately, doctors at the receiving hospital confirmed she had died on arrival.

Early investigations suggest that the officer may have undergone an induced abortion, possibly to trigger labour. However, the situation turned tragic, resulting in massive haemorrhaging that cost her life.

Police have since detained a nurse who was on duty at the clinic and a driver believed to be connected to the case. The body of the officer was moved to the mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the full cause of death.

In Kenya, abortion remains heavily restricted except under specific circumstances, such as threats to the life or health of the mother. However, illegal and unsafe procedures are still common, carried out secretly due to legal fears and social stigma.

A Call for Safer Health Choices

Local medics and community voices have raised concerns over the increasing number of women turning to unregulated clinics. This case, they say, is yet another painful reminder of the health risks many face due to limited access to safe reproductive healthcare.
