  • A Nairobi man was robbed of KSh290,000 and his phone after a night out.
  • He was allegedly drugged by two men he met at a club along River Road.
  • The victim blacked out and woke up at home with no memory of how he got there.
  • Police used CCTV and mobile money records to trace and arrest the suspects.
  • The two suspects were charged and released on KSh100,000 bail each.

What started as a casual night out turned into a nightmare for Simon Katumo, who is now counting heavy losses. Katumo says he had gone out to unwind at a popular club on River Road when he got into conversation with two strangers.

The two men, who introduced themselves as James Githinji and Brian Kamau, seemed friendly. They drank together, but soon after a fresh round of drinks was served, things changed.

Victim Found at Home, Dazed

Police reports show that Katumo lost consciousness shortly after the drinks were served. He later woke up at his house, confused and unable to recall how he got there.

That’s when he realised his expensive smartphone had vanished, and upon checking his mobile wallet and bank accounts, over KSh290,000 was gone.

“The complainant said the money disappeared from both M-Pesa and bank accounts,” the police confirmed.

Suspects Tracked Down

Katumo rushed to Nairobi Central Police Station to report the incident. Officers acted swiftly, reviewing mobile money transfers and CCTV footage from the club.

The investigation led to the arrest of Githinji and Kamau, who were found and taken into custody after being positively linked to the incident.

Court Case Underway

The suspects were arraigned at Makadara Law Courts before Principal Magistrate Stephanie Beth. They both denied the accusations laid against them.

The court released them on a cash bail of KSh100,000 each as they await the next court session. Investigations are ongoing as police work to recover the stolen funds.
