Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally entered into a regional political partnership with Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM), the party headed by President Yoweri Museveni. The historic signing took place on May 10, 2025, at Hustler Plaza, marking a new chapter of collaboration between the two East African ruling parties.

Agreement to Share Political Skills and Strategies

The memorandum of understanding was signed by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar and his NRM counterpart Richard Todwong. Under this deal, both parties agreed to train each other in areas they specialize in. UDA will share lessons from its Bottom-Up Economic model, while NRM will offer leadership training from Uganda’s well-known National Leadership Institute located in Kyankwanzi.

Ugandan Team Explores Bottom-Up Vision in Nairobi

During their three-day stay in Kenya, the NRM delegation took time to study Kenya’s development approach. They were introduced to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda being spearheaded by President Ruto’s economic advisors. The visitors also toured major affordable housing projects in Kibra, guided by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Top UDA Figures Join Hands for a United Vision

The event brought together key figures from UDA’s leadership team. Those present included National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi, Deputy SG Hon. Omboko Milemba, and Deputy Executive Director Brian Mbugua. Also in attendance were directors like Daniel Kiptoo, Rob Jillo, Grace Gicovi, Nathaniel Mong’are, and others, reflecting the high level of commitment to the partnership.

A Regional Strategy Beyond Borders

The new alliance between UDA and NRM is seen as more than just politics—it’s a strategy aimed at long-term unity and influence in East Africa. Through regular interaction and shared goals, the two parties plan to support each other not only in party matters but also in economic and leadership growth.
