A middle-aged woman has found herself in serious legal trouble after allegedly trying to get a teaching job using another person’s identity and forged documents. The woman, identified as Caroline Makena, is said to have posed as Kairuthi Caroline Kubai in a bid to trick officials at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) office in Laikipia North.
TSC Visit Turns into Criminal Case
Makena allegedly walked into the Laikipia North Sub-county TSC offices on May 8, 2023, requesting to be posted as a teacher. According to court documents, she presented herself as Kairuthi Caroline Kubai—knowingly using someone else’s identity in an attempt to qualify for a job.
Forged Papers and Stolen ID
She is facing several criminal charges after she allegedly submitted a KCSE certificate originally issued to Kubai by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). Investigators claim she also used Kubai’s KCPE certificate, a National ID card, and a KRA PIN number, all belonging to someone else.
The intent, prosecutors say, was to convince the sub-county education office that she was qualified and eligible for employment under the TSC.
Court Appearance and Bail Terms
Caroline Makena appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi at Milimani Law Courts, where she pleaded not guilty to the impersonation and forgery charges. The court released her on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 as she awaits further hearing.
Her case highlights growing concerns around document fraud in Kenya’s public service recruitment systems.
