President William Ruto has taken swift action in response to serious claims involving illegal organ transplants by suspending Dr. Swarup Mishra from his role as the chairperson of the Kenya BioVax Institute.
Dr. Mishra, who is also the founder of Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret, is at the centre of a storm after the hospital was linked to suspected unethical and unlawful transplant procedures.
A statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Friday, April 18, confirmed that Dr. Mishra has been relieved of his duties pending investigations.
“The suspension shall remain in force pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities,” the statement read.
Mediheal Hospital, which Dr. Mishra established, has recently faced accusations of involvement in organ trafficking—triggering concern from both the public and authorities.
President Ruto’s administration emphasized that it will not tolerate any breach of ethical standards, especially in sensitive sectors like healthcare.
“The President reaffirms the Government’s commitment to fighting corruption, including upholding integrity in healthcare, public safety, and justice for victims,” the statement added.
The suspension is intended to allow for an impartial probe into the troubling claims without interference.
Dr. Mishra had been serving at the helm of the Kenya BioVax Institute, a state agency under the Ministry of Health tasked with driving vaccine production and biotechnology innovations locally.
The government has not given a specific timeline for the investigation or confirmed whether criminal charges may follow. The State House assured the public that more information will be shared once the probe is complete.
