What seemed like a relaxing massage session quickly turned into a nightmare for one Nairobi man, after he fell victim to a clever scam involving two men posing as glamorous female masseuses. The incident unfolded at a spa in the Kasarani area along Lumumba Drive.
The suspects, identified as Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, had created enticing profiles online, pretending to be attractive women offering professional massage services.
After engaging with the phony online profiles, the victim agreed to meet them for a massage session. But soon after stepping inside the premises, the situation took a dark twist.
“Moments into the ‘massage,’ the two suspects drew knives, exposing both their true identities and complete lack of massage skills,” a DCI statement revealed.
The robbers reportedly forced the man to transfer Ksh 280,000 to their number at knifepoint before robbing him of personal belongings and ejecting him from the premises.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations launched a manhunt for the pair and eventually found them hiding in the Kamiti area. Authorities say they appeared to be enjoying themselves—possibly spending the money they had extorted.
The two suspects were arrested and are being held in police custody as they await to be charged in court.
Police are warning the public, especially men, against falling prey to suspicious online offers and visiting poorly regulated massage joints. They caution that some of these places may be crime hotspots masked as wellness centers.
