- Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has asked Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to resign as ODM Secretary General.
- Salasya claims Sifuna cannot oppose a government that his own party supports.
- President Ruto also warned Sifuna that disciplinary action could be taken against him.
- The call for resignation comes amid rising political tension within ODM ranks.
“ODM Is Fading – Leave Before It’s Too Late”
Mumias East lawmaker Peter Salasya has made a bold political move, publicly urging Senator Edwin Sifuna to step down as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Salasya, while addressing his concerns on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 13, questioned how Sifuna could attack a government that his own party has seemingly aligned with.
“Edwin Sifuna, my brother from Western, come back home! Step down as ODM SG. You can’t oppose a government your party sleeps with. ODM’s days are fading, and so are yours if you stay,” Salasya posted.
Ruto’s Warning to Sifuna
The row deepened after President William Ruto issued a sharp warning to Senator Sifuna during a speech in Siaya County. While attending the burial of Raila Odinga’s longtime bodyguard George Oduor, the President made it clear that Sifuna’s criticism of his administration would not go unchallenged.
“When you speak about me, Edwin Sifuna, know that I am a founding member of ODM. If you push me too far, I will call for a meeting of the founding members, and if we do, we can discipline you,” said Ruto.
Sifuna Fires Back
Before the President’s remarks, Sifuna had delivered a daring speech, accusing the government of creating its own problems.
He referenced the recent Butere Girls’ drama ban in Nakuru, blaming Ruto’s administration for mismanaging public freedoms.
“Like the Bishop mentioned, your job is very hard… However, there are some difficulties you have imposed on yourself… Like the drama we saw in Nakuru, where Butere Girls’ High School students were stopped from performing, that’s a problem you have imposed on yourself,” Sifuna said.
Tension appears to be rising within the ODM party and its relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government, as internal and external criticism grows louder.
