Police in Nakuru are investigating a heartbreaking case in which a boda boda rider allegedly poisoned his two sons before trying to take his own life.
The man, now under tight police guard at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital, reportedly gave his sons-aged 7 and 12-a poisonous substance on Wednesday, April 2. He later attempted suicide, though his motives remain unclear.
Their mother, who works as a food vendor, said she was out making deliveries when the tragedy struck. She had seen her husband’s motorbike parked at home earlier and assumed their children were safe with him.
Later that day, she called to ask what the family would like for lunch. Not long after, two of her other children ran to her with shocking news—their siblings were in severe pain and unable to move.
“I asked them where their father was, and they said he had left to pick up a client. I quickly rushed home,” she told reporters.
She found her sons crying in pain and suffering from intense diarrhea. Neighbors helped her rush the boys to hospital, where doctors battled to save them. Tragically, both boys passed away while receiving treatment.
Hours later, she learned that her husband had also been admitted to the same hospital after allegedly trying to take his own life.
Detectives have since launched investigations into the incident, as the community grapples with the devastating loss.
