Let Us Lead in Peace’ – Wavinya Speaks on Harassment of Women Governors

  • Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has decried increasing political attacks targeting female county bosses.
  • She mentioned Nakuru’s Susan Kihika and Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga as also facing public hostility.
  • Wavinya made the remarks during a church service in Kalama Sub-County, Machakos.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has raised concern over what she describes as a growing and coordinated campaign against women governors in Kenya. Speaking at Victory Church Kyamuthinza in Kalama Sub-County during a Sunday service, she called on the church community to pray for and support female county leaders who are, according to her, under siege from political rivals.

“A New Wave of Political Hostility”

In her passionate address, Wavinya pointed out that the trend of attacks appears to specifically target women holding leadership roles:

“There’s a dangerous spirit moving across this country, aiming at women governors. Susan Kihika in Nakuru is under fire. Gladys Wanga in Homa Bay is being fought. And right here in Machakos, I’m also being targeted,” she said.

Her remarks come at a time when women in leadership continue to face criticism, pressure, and political isolation.

Recent Events in Machakos Fuel the Tension

Wavinya’s sentiments come just weeks after Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza was impeached, adding to growing concerns about the political environment for female leaders. In her own backyard, Machakos is currently experiencing political turbulence, with 33 MCAs backing a motion to impeach County Assembly Speaker Anne Kiusya.

Governor Calls for Calm and Dialogue

While speaking about the local situation, Wavinya called on Speaker Kiusya to take initiative and open communication channels with the MCAs:

“I tried to reach out to her personally, but she didn’t pick up my calls. Still, I believe dialogue is key. She should sit with the MCAs and resolve this impasse,” Wavinya said.

Unity Over Division

As pressure mounts, Wavinya emphasized the need for unity, mutual respect, and peaceful resolution of political disputes, especially where women leaders are involved. She urged Kenyans to reject smear campaigns and instead support leaders who are working for the people.
