Police in Uasin Gishu have launched an investigation after a man was found illegally set up a police patrol base in Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County, without any authorization from the National Police Service (NPS).
The suspect, identified as Collins Leitich, also known as Chepkulei, reportedly took matters into his own hands by establishing a patrol base in a rented building. To make it appear legitimate, he even painted the structure in official police colors, creating the impression that it was a recognized security facility.
The unauthorized setup was discovered by local authorities, who immediately raised concerns about its legality. Officers from Kamuyu Police Post, which operates under Kondoo Police Station, were informed of the incident and swiftly responded to the matter. The case has since been recorded under OB04/08/03/2025 as investigations continue.
Residents of the area were left in disbelief upon learning that the patrol base was not sanctioned by the police. Many had assumed it was a government initiative aimed at improving security in the region.
“We were shocked to find out that the base was not official. It looked real, and we thought it was a step towards better security,” one resident remarked.
Authorities are now working to establish the motive behind the suspect’s actions. It remains unclear whether he had any criminal intentions or if he genuinely believed he was providing a public service.
Police have assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken against the suspect, and they continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure no further breaches of law occur.
