Summary

  • Odinga dismissed charges that he had abandoned Azimio’s comrades to join the general government.
  • He clarified that his engagement is solely to assist Ruto in choosing the best candidates from his side of the administration.

Raila Odinga, the Azimio leader, has finally detailed what happened during his conversation with President William Ruto.

Speaking at the funeral of his father, former IEBC commissioner Irene Masit, Odinga stated that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta pushed him to do so.

According to the ODM leader, Uhuru Kenyatta called and requested him to meet with President William Ruto to preserve Kenya from the anarchy that erupted as a result of the Gen Z protests.

“When the country was in crisis, former President Kenyatta called and urged me to contact President Ruto to help solve Gen Z’s difficulties. “We discussed the situation, and I shared my ideas on how to handle it,” he stated.

Odinga dismissed charges that he abandoned Azimio’s comrades and joined the Genzs government.

He said that his engagement is solely to assist Ruto in choosing the most qualified individuals within his administration.

“I am not a member of the government. We disagreed on the coalition government. Ruto requested me to help him find persons from my side to serve in his administration, which I did. “I am confident that we will move forward as a nation,” he said.

Odinga’s remarks came amid suspicion regarding his involvement in President Ruto’s administration.

Four senior ODM party members were included in President Ruto’s new cabinet nomination list, which was announced on July 19. These members are Hassan Joho, who will oversee minerals, the blue economy, and marine affairs, John Mbadi, who will oversee national Treasury, Opiyo Wandayi, who will oversee energy and petroleum, and Wycliffe Oparanya, who will oversee cooperation and development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

The opposition is now feeling dissatisfied with this appointment.

The former Gatundu South mp has been involved in various businesses, including media, hardware, real estate, and labour export.
