Ruto’s Commitment to Honoring Raila

President William Ruto has shared details of a conversation he had with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, months after the 2022 General Election.

Speaking at the signing of the ODM-UDA framework agreement at KICC on Friday, March 7, Ruto revealed that he assured Raila of his respect and recognition within his government, acknowledging the veteran politician’s contribution to the country’s development.

Recognition for Raila’s Leadership

“Several months after the elections, I called my brother and told him— you have been my party leader and senior. Today, by God’s grace, I want you to be treated well. I will do whatever it takes to ensure you are respected in Kenya.

“I am not doing this for selfish reasons. I am younger, and you are an elder. The contribution you have made deserves respect. That is the relationship I have built with Raila,” Ruto stated.

A Deal for the Nation, Not Individuals

During the signing, Ruto expressed gratitude to Raila for standing with him in addressing national challenges, emphasizing that their agreement was aimed at benefiting all Kenyans.

“Jobs, wealth, enterprise opportunities, and social services must be provided within an environment that is free, open, democratic, and competitive. We move forward with a shared commitment— not only to doing the right things for our nation but also to ensuring they are done right,” Ruto remarked.

Key Commitments Under the ODM-UDA Agreement

As part of the deal, the Kenya Kwanza and ODM leadership pledged to implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report. The agreement focuses on addressing the cost of living, youth unemployment, gender inclusion, and governance inclusivity.

Additionally, the leaders committed to strengthening devolution, creating opportunities for the youth, upholding integrity in leadership, and safeguarding the right to peaceful assembly.
