Legal Storm: Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma Faces Two Lawsuits Minutes After Swearing-In

  • Isaac Mutuma sworn in as Meru Governor after Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment.
  • An activist files a lawsuit challenging his assumption of office.
  • Mutuma, who served as Deputy Governor since 2022, now faces a legal battle just moments after taking the oath.

Meru’s newly sworn-in Governor, Isaac Mutuma, barely had time to settle into his new role before being dragged into a court battle.

Minutes after taking the oath of office at Mwendantu Grounds on Monday, March 17, an activist moved to court seeking to block his tenure on multiple legal grounds.

Mutuma, who had served as Deputy Governor since 2022, officially took over the county’s leadership following the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza in 2024. Her removal was upheld by the High Court on March 14, paving the way for his swearing-in.

The lawsuits now cast a shadow over his leadership, setting the stage for a political and legal showdown in Meru County.
