KSSSA & FEASSSA Officials Express Concern Over Stalled Bukhungu Stadium Renovation

  • Bukhungu Stadium was closed for renovation over 12 months ago.
  • The stadium is supposed to host the National Kenya Secondary School Games from 26th July.
  • KSSSA has raised concerns over slow pace of renovations.

Officials from the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) and the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) have raised concerns over the slow pace of renovations at Bukhungu Stadium ahead of this year’s national and regional school games.

A high powered delegation from the KSSSA National Office and FEASSSA conducted an inspection tour of the proposed competition venues across Kakamega County. Among the sites visited were Kakamega High School, Mukumu Complex, MMUST grounds, Approved School, and Bukhungu Stadium.

Speaking during the inspection, Mr. Nelson Sifuna; the Head of Directorate for Field Coordination and Co-curricular Activities in the national government warned that failure by the contractor to complete renovations at Bukhungu Stadium by July 30 would force organizers to seek an alternative venue. The stadium had been earmarked to host the finals of both the national and East African championships.

Despite the concerns, Kakamega County Executive for Sports, Jackline Masicha, assured stakeholders that the project was on course. “The contractor has significantly ramped up progress in recent days. We are confident that Bukhungu will be ready on time and will meet the required standards for both the KSSSA Nationals and FEASSSA Games,” she said.

The 2025 KSSSA Nationals and the East Africa Regional Championships are expected to attract thousands of participants, fans, and officials from across Kenya and the East African region.
